Colt impresses again: 2-minute drill TD

Colt impresses again:  4 plays, 80 yards, 1:09 minute drive at the end of the game.  Colt’s TD pass to Jason Goode was the Redskins broadcast’s drive of the game.  After Colt’s TD drive, broadcaster (and former QB) Joe Theismann said of Brennan:  “He has it.  Brett Favre has it with capital letters – he’s got the big it.  Colt Brennan just finds a way to get it done.”

For the night, Colt went 4-5 / 79 yards with the game-winning TD.  A late-game botched FG prevented Colt from taking the field again in OT.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again:  this is only preseason.  Colt will learn more and more as the year continues.  But Colt fans have plenty to be happy about.

UPDATE:  Washington Post writeup:

Trailing, 10-6, Washington took over on its 20-yard line with 2 minutes 4 seconds remaining in the game. Brennan had entered in the third quarter in Washington’s first two preseason games but came in to start the fourth quarter Saturday. That’s because Coach Jim Zorn wanted to evaluate the rookie in a late-game situation with the team either in a hurry-up mode because it trailed or trying to manage the clock with a lead.

On the drive’s first play, Brennan completed a 37-yard pass to wide receiver Billy McMullen. Marcus Mason rushed for 14 yards on the next play, and then Brennan was sacked. The Redskins went to a no-huddle offense, and Brennan teamed with tight end Jason Goode on a 33-yard touchdown pass over the middle with 1:17 to play. Jets defensive back James Ihedigbo gambled for the interception, and Goode got behind him. Place kicker Shaun Suisham‘s point-after kick gave the Redskins a three-point cushion.

  1. hell yeah! Watched the game at work. That dropped pass should have been caught too.

  2. Awesome!! We knew Colt had it when he played for us here in Hawai`i…and you’re totally right, he’ll keep on learning and getting better and let everyone know what he’s made of…

    BRENNAN NO KA OI!!!

  7. I’ve read the redskins boards and read many bashing Colt after the Sugar Bowl. The redskins faithful say that he should remain a third stringer and don’t think he has a chance at being a starter unless Campbell and Collins get injured. They say that he will never do well with the first stringers. I personally do think that Colt will do well and he should be given the chance to be a starter after he has the experience in the NFL and with the Skins, TWEAKS his skills, and has contribute to scoring many touchdowns. Also, I believe Colt is a great QB on a LEVEL field. In the Sugar Bowl the field wasn’t level because the Georgia defense clearly dominated Hawaii’s offense and Colt could not prove to any of the haters. In the NFL, it’s different. The field is level…whether he is with the third string offense up against a thirds string defenses. I believe if you put him in a first string offense against first string defenses, Colt will still be accurate and make TDs. Providing other teams first string defenses don’t dominate the Skins defense, the field will still be level unlike the the Sugar Bowl. Since Colt dropped in stock after the Sugar Bowl, most NFL teams don’t see his skills. I hope they are proven wrong and the Skins would have a steal when they picked up Colt.

  8. Aloha,
    God bless you!

  9. Colt will be great in any SYSTEM provide the field is LEVEL!

  10. Colt’s a smart guy. Given the time he’ll develop from a great football player and leader into the Redskin’s franchise poster-boy. At least, signs from Zorn show that at times…

There are a lot of Colt doubters out there, but I’ve also seen a lot of positive comments and optimism from Redskins fans too. Not so much when I say I’m drafting Colt first in my fantasy football league though 😉

  11. There will always be doubters, and lovers. I agree hole heartedly he will be a starter, maybe not with the Redskins, but he will be. There are plenty of teams out there in need of a good QB. All it takes is to be able to get in the game, play a couple games, and boom someone else picks him up. That’s what happen to Delhomme, I watched him in UL-Lafayette, watched him with the Saints it only took 1 injury for him to get out there prove his worth, and look what happen took Carolina to the Super Bowl. So people can say he won’t be good cause Hawaii crap. My team is UL-Lafayette in the Sun Belt, and we rarely have someone that stands out. Delhomme shows you can come from any school, and be a success if your good. Colt is better then good.

  12. I’v watched Colt ever since he played in Ca in High school
His potential is great and with the right coach hewill be another joe Montana or Farve. Keep your eye on hiim and you wont be disappoointed. He is a great guy and so very human.
